Allion was released for sale in December 2001 as a replacement of Toyota Carina. For Toyota fans from the old days, it was a sad moment to lose Toyoto Carina from its car selection; however, Allion was introduced without inheriting the name of Carina because Toyota planned to introduce Allion as an advanced medium sedan that leads 21st century.
In terms of design, Allion has a dramatic design which is similar to recent Toyota’s aggressive designs. Indeed, Toyota showed how good they are on building automobile by introducing Allion, developed with the keyword of “Upscaled and luxurious”.
Toyota Allion interior was also renewed by changing the area around the center cluster and gear stick. Speedometer also became new, 4.2-inch TFT liquid crystal display that enables to display various information at a high resolution was adopted. By using illumination effect and white pointers for the meter, its visibility and a luxurious feeling were enhanced. The brown color was used for the leather seats, giving the interior a comfortable and high-quality atmosphere. The color of the non-leather seats was also changed from ivory to brighter color that makes a wonderful contrast to a black-colored interior.
For safety features, Toyota Allion adopts the next features as a standard equipment: collision avoidance support system “Toyota Safety Sense C” involving a monocular camera and laser radar, and an intelligent clearance sonar system that helps drivers to avoid a collision at parking time and reduce a collision damage. Drive-start control function restraining a false start of AT and emergency brake signal are also set.
